Great beer selection. Friendly and helpful staff. Had the chips which were outstanding. We were just there to have a beer but burgers looked great. Would go there again

Tempted to give them one less star due to the lack of free water... grumble grumble... but I have to say that their burgers are really good and especially great when considering the price. The sides, however, get old for me pretty fast. I like my fries a bit crunchier than theirs always turn out. And I always get that beer-cheese sauce and then wonder WHY, Why did I do that to myself, again!??! If you haven't, try their on-tap root beer.

Very good beer selection. Very good hand cut fries. Cold burger. ugh! Server was nice and suggested a "Sasquatch IPA" that turned out to be a Squatters IPA from Utah and it also turned out to be delicious, as were the hand cut fries that accompanied my Rajin Cajun burger. Unfortunately, while the fries were piping hot, the burger was not. It was lukewarm all the way through from the limp room temperature grilled onions to the burger. I think it would have been a very good burger if it had been at least warm. Not sure I want to give them another try to find out.

You come here for the beer, not the food. The fries are homemade, but undercooked. They are limp and greasy, almost like the oil wasn't hot enough. I almost wish they had thrown the fries back in and tried to crisp them a bit. The burgers are old-school, 50s-diner style. They are pressed on a griddle until flattened. While being well-done, they're not dry at all. The toppings are great: fried eggs, Cajun, blue cheese, gyro burgers, BBQ & Cole slaw... You name it. The beer selection is fantastic. They don't just cater to the microbrews with gobs of hops. They certainly have those, but they also have the mass-market less expensive beers like Miller, as well as some higher end mass beers like Guinness. If you can't find a suitable beer here for your tastes, then you are REALLY finicky. All being said, prepare for good tasting, but overly greasy food. And treat yourself to any variety of beers.

If you have kids this place isn't for you...it's just a stupid hipster wanna be bar that pretends to serve food. We ended up in this town on our drive to Alaska. On Mother's Day we just wanted dinner, but every dinner place was super packed so we tried to go here to just get a burger but were kicked because our son was with us.....on MOTHER'S DAY! We just wanted dinner...thanks for nothing. This is a bar, and nothing more...end of story.

Like the other locations, the service, burgers and of course beer are on point. This location seems to be the largest.. Burger patty perfect size with a nice fluffy bun. Had the Fox Barrel pear cider which tastes like a sweet wine. I kept drinking that rather than my coca cola:) will be back !

I'm parched. I'm parched! Why? They don't give you tap water. You can buy a plastic bottle. It's surprising, especially considering this is a place that has "beer" in the title. C'mon! I know your job is to raise sales -- I get that -- but denying water is a cheapo move that lowers my opinion of you. If I drink anything else, I want water to go with it (a quirk). Something that simple also decreases the amount of visits I'll make. Silly, I know, but true. It adds $1.75 or whatever to the cost of the bill; like a $1.75 water tax. Anyway, on to other matters: The burger was good. The chips were really good. The service was fine. As others have said, it's cramped. It's dark. Would I go back? Yeah, maybe with my own water bottle.

I ate there Tuesday night with a coworker. We're both from out of state and we're just looking for a place to chat and chill out. I was a little concerned when I saw how few cars were in the parking lot and then when I went inside it was smaller than I expected. The servers had a very good knowledge of the beers and friendly. The menu was simple but varied enough. Overall good experience!

Best burger I've had in a long time. The BLT Blu is to die for and the Buffalo Blu fries are homemade and delicious. Deff going back!

Great burger, nice selection of iced cold beer! Its in the neighborhood and we grab a burger on the way home, higher priced than the chains but very worth it! You get what you pay for

A burger with an egg on top always make me weak in the knees. I'm a burger girl, so this place is legit. Get your sip on with the local beer (i.e. Fargo Brewing's Woodchipper is the bomb dot com). You're welcome.

Burgers are great (best burger joint in town). Wide variety of beers to choose from. Prices are pretty reasonable.

Nice solid burger and beer joint. It's Fargo so for me, I'm rating it 4 stars as when compared to Kumas or Paradise Pup in the Chicago area for the burger portion. They have two locations, but I ended up at the West Fargo location due to Fargo Days when I was visiting and didn't want to deal with street closures downtown. I sat the counter and was greeted within seconds. Was asked if I wanted to look at the beer and food menu and said yes. He said I'll give you a few and did exactly that. He offered up some suggestions based on feed back of my beer tastes. Overall a nice experience, food was good and I like the fact they cut all their potatoes onsite and do not use frozen ones. Worth a stop.

We were all hungry and the suggestion was made to eat at JL Beers. We pull up to the place and the parking lot is full and there are cars parked on the street, clearly a very good place to grab dinner. We head inside and find three open seats at the bar. I get the spot right at the end of bar, which for a foodie is pretty cool since I can see everything going on in the kitchen. We quickly make a beer order and I got a Stone's Throw from the Fargo Beer Company (no idea there was on in Fargo). The beer was a fantastic choice! It has a nice floral and herbal flavor to it, very smooth and a great choice to go with the burger I ordered. I also got a Canadian beer, a Kokanee Glacier; which was very light and quite smooth. Now, the menu only has burgers, fries and beer, that's it. Don't expect to find anything that only has veggies, this isn't the place for you. This is the place for amazing burgers with amazing beers. I got the JL Burger, which has grilled onions piled high, cheese, special sauce and two hamburger patties on a fresh baked bun (it was the most expensive burger on the menu, a whole $5). I got to watch them make my burger, which was pretty cool. Patties look to be pre-prepped into large meat balls, then thrown on the grill and cooled for 1:15. The potato chips (and the fries) are made to order using whole potatoes. They're cut right away and then tossed into the fryer. My burger is ready in about 5 minutes and it was a fantastic sight! The double patties, with the grilled onions, cheese and special sauce had a fantastic combination. The grilled onions (which are great on just about any burger) threw in a great sweet flavor to mix with the special sauce (kind of like thousand island). It was a little messy, but every bite was amazing. The potato chips were good with a light mix of salt. I'll for sure be going back the next time I'm in Fargo and I'll be getting the Humpty Dumpty burger!

Great burger joint. The staff if very knowledgeable about beer. Beers are little more pricey compared to most places, but there are so many to chose from. This goes for all JL Beers, I have been to all 3 (cant wait for the 4 to open). The two-heart beer is a good one,!

My oh my! I was told of JL Beers by a colleague. We went and thoroughly enjoyed a great beer selection and amazing burgers. My "first time" I consumed so happily the Humpty Dumpty! So delicious it can't explained.. by me! I've also enjoyed the Rajun Cajun- tender, spicy without being overbearing! The chips were fresh, hot, crispy and tasty too! I simply wish there was a franchise in Upstate NY! Yummy!

I was pleasantly surprised and pleased to find this place in West Fargo. I was glad to see their beer list had some craft beers from the Twin Cities and Colorado areas (which does not seem to be the case in most bars in the Fargo area). The beers were decently priced as well. Their burgers are pretty good too. The presentation of their burgers on a big tray makes it look like the portions are small but do not be fooled. Those are pretty decent portions. I was pretty full after my burger and could barely eat any of the fries. I got the Humpty Dumpty burger and added lettuce and tomatoes to it (i love lettuce and tomatoes on my burgers). It was really good. One of my friends ordered the Rajun Cajun and that was good too. Overall everyone had good things to say about the burgers there. The fries are decent too. I liked the environment as well. It was a good bar environment with sports on the tv screens, and a good beer list. It does tend to get a little crowded since they have very limited seating. And the service was a little slow but understandable.

McDonald's may sell billions of hamburgers every day, but nobody's going to argue that they're "good". In the same way, when you realize that Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors products are all crap, where do you go for a beer that's actually worth drinking? JL Beers. It's like a beer Mecca, and my favorite joint in Fargo. There may be other places that advertise a lot of beers and a "world beer tour" club or whatever... But JL Beers isn't some corporate chain restaurant that tastes the same everywhere you go. It's a distinctly regional thing, slowly expanding into other nearby cities, and that makes it all the more special. This is something you can only get around here. It's truly a local treasure. I just moved here from Las Vegas, and this place would be a 5-star hangout in ANY city. The burgers and fries here aren't the best I've ever had, but they're still very very good. 4/5 stars on the strength of the food alone, type of good. My personal favorite burger is their Gyro Burger, just because it's the most adventurous or different burger than what you can get anywhere else. Cucumber, tomato, lettuce and feta. Who knew it would be so good on a burger instead of gyro-spit-roasted lamb meat? It's amazing. And their fries are pretty good, too. With beer cheese sauces, jalapenos, bacon... Don't get plain fries or chips- you'll only be cheating yourself. The one downside to the place can also be considered an upside- the beer selection rotates. It's bad news when a beer you love (Weihenstephaner hefeweizen) is no longer available, but it also means there will always be something new to try. Trappist ales, bocks and other lagers, lambic, kellerbier... Sure, you won't like 'em all, but there will always be something new to try is the point. And for a local joint in a small town like Fargo? That's truly something special. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Never would've thought to put a fried egg on a cheeseburger, but oh my goodness, the Humpty Dumpty is fantastic!

Sister, brother-in-law, hubby and I went out for a night on the town. We stopped at JL Beers and the place was packed which for a Tuesday night was good. Of course, the place only hold 50 people (seriously) so a packed house doesn't mean what you think it means. I was the only one that had a difficult time ordering drinks as they only serve beer (hence the name I guess) and I don't drink beer. They seemed to have an adequate offering of that. Although brother-in-law had to start off with a Bud Light. Place serves a small variety of burgers served on bar trays. In my book that is always a sign of good food. (Seriously, I mean that.) We all ordered burgers. Some ordered fries, some ordered chips. Fries were good, homemade chips were great. Burgers were also very good. Burger prices were also good. Basic burger was $2.99 but you pay extra for the fixings. Most of those were .50 or so. While eating your burger make sure you don't ask for a glass of water. They only serve bottled water that you have to buy. I find that a big rip off. Every restaurant should be able to serve a glass of water (even crappy West Fargo water) to a patron if they ask. My dear husband did suggest a ladle in the restrooms might be an added touch to our server. She thought he was kidding. He probably wasn't. In hindsight, I would guess the bar does not have ice on premise. They serve beer only, soda in cans and bottled water all kept in coolers. They don't have an ice maker would be my bet and I am probably the only person in the world that doesn't like ice in my water. So there you have it. Our night on the town started at JL Beers. It also ended at JL Beers at about 9:30. (Even in the land of the 10:30 sun we can't stay up late.) We are old. Our all nighters now consist of the nights we can't sleep. JL Beers is worth the try especially if you are a beer lover.

Burgers so good I had to have one two nights in a row! Their menu is fairly small, but the cajun burger and the bleu cheese burgers are amazing. The bun is a perfectly soft, buttery consistency and the toppings are great. Also, try the hot beer cheese with your fries...awesome! Will definitely have to try their massive beer selection one evening. Decent prices as well.

Excellent burger joint. We loved the Rajun Cajun burger and fresh spiral-cut chips. The chips had Cajun flavoring and we also loved the Cajun Lime dipping sauce.
